No Hustle World

Privacy

Renters do not post honestly if their landlord can work out who they are. Most of what follows exists for that reason.

What is public

  • Your reviews, their ratings, and roughly when you lived there.
  • The unit number, if you gave one — leave it out if the building is small enough that it would identify you.
  • The label “Former tenant”. Nothing more.

What is never public

  • Your email address. It is not shown in any page and not returned by any part of the public API.
  • Your name, if you gave one at sign-up.
  • Your IP address — see below.

What we store

  • Your email address, to confirm the account and sign you in.
  • A salted hash of your IP address when you sign up or post, used to spot one person running many accounts. We do not keep the address itself, and a hash cannot be turned back into one.
  • Your reviews and votes, and any reports you file.

What we do not collect

  • No analytics or advertising trackers.
  • No third-party cookies. The only cookie is your login session.
  • No lease documents or identity documents. We do not accept them. Holding that material would create a far worse risk to you than the fake reviews it would prevent.

Personal information in reviews

When you write a review we check the text for things that look like phone numbers, email addresses or postal codes, and warn you before it posts. We warn rather than edit — silently rewriting what someone wrote is not our place. If personal information gets through, report the review and we will remove it.

Deleting your account

Deleting your account permanently removes your email address, your login, and the IP hashes linked to you. Your reviews stay, no longer connected to you.

We do it this way deliberately. If deleting an account erased its reviews, pressuring one former tenant into closing their account would be an easy way to clear a building's record — and the renters that record was there to protect would lose it. Your privacy is preserved; the warning stays.

If you want a specific review gone, delete that review before deleting your account.

Map and address data

Addresses are resolved through the Province of British Columbia's public geocoder and, where imported, municipal open data. Searching for an address sends that address to the provincial service. Map tiles are served by OpenStreetMap, which will see your IP address as your browser loads them.
