No Hustle World exists so renters can find out what a place is actually like before they sign. That only works if what is here is honest, and if the people who write it are not put at risk for doing so.
What belongs in a review
- Your own experience of renting the building.
- How the landlord or management company behaved — repairs, responses, the deposit, the state of the unit against what was advertised.
- Opinions, clearly as opinions. “I would not rent here again.”
What does not
- Named individuals. Review the company on the lease, not the person who answered the phone. Building staff are private people.
- Accusations of crimes. Describe what happened to you instead. “I never got my deposit back and had to go to the Residential Tenancy Branch” says more than calling someone a thief, and it is something you can stand behind.
- Anyone's personal information — phone numbers, emails, or details that identify a specific household.
- Places you have not rented. If a listing tried to scam you, use the scam report on the building's page instead; that is what it is for.
Keeping reviews honest
Reviews are only useful if they are real, so posting has friction on purpose: a confirmed email address, one review per person per building enforced by the database, a limit of three reviews a day, and a wait after signing up. Ratings are also weighted so a single review moves a building's score only a little — one furious review does not sink a decent building, and one planted review does not rescue a bad one.
Unusual patterns — several reviews on one building in a day from brand-new accounts — are flagged automatically for a person to look at. They are never hidden automatically on that basis alone.
Your name is not attached
Every review appears as “Former tenant”. We do not display your name or email to anyone, including the landlord. An account exists to make faking reviews expensive, not to identify you.
If a landlord disagrees
A landlord who represents a company here can reply publicly to any review about their buildings. The reply appears directly beneath the review so that anyone reading gets both accounts together. We think that serves renters better than removing criticism.
When we remove something
We hide or remove content when it:
- states something as fact that is demonstrably untrue,
- identifies a private individual,
- is not a genuine tenancy, or
- is harassment, spam, or unrelated to renting the building.
We do not remove a review for being negative, and we do not remove one because the landlord asked. Every moderation decision is recorded with who made it and when.
